Empowering Educators, Inspiring Learners: CIS Teachers Join Cambridge Professional Development Program

Malang — Three Cambridge teachers from CIS Primary Sidoarjo, Ms. Rofi, Ms. Airiza, and Ms. Nunky, participated in the Cambridge Centre ID110 Professional Development Program: “From Empathy to Deep Learning in ICPs – Fostering HOTS through Problem-Based Learning and Dual-Layer Scaffolding.”

Held from 28–30 August 2026 at Ijen Suites Resort & Convention Malang, the program was organized by Cambridge Centre ID 110, Institute for Developing Laboratory Education Universitas Negeri Malang (UM). The program focused on strengthening teachers’ approaches to Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), Problem-Based Learning (PBL), and Dual-Layer Scaffolding.

Besides learning new teaching approaches, the program provided opportunities for educators from different schools and cities to collaborate, exchange experiences, and share creative classroom ideas.

For Ms. Airiza, one of the most memorable experiences was working with fellow teachers and sharing ideas in Science education. The collaborative activities also helped strengthen her confidence as an educator.

“This experience made us feel more motivated and confident,” shared Ms. Airiza.

Ms. Rofi found the gallery walk particularly inspiring, where participants presented creative learning ideas. Her group developed “What’s on My Plate?”, a fun Mathematics activity for introducing Carroll Diagrams to Grade 1 students. She is also excited to adapt creative learning media, such as concrete manipulatives, for her Mathematics lessons.

Meanwhile, Ms. Nunky highlighted the importance of transforming authentic classroom problems into meaningful learning experiences.

“I hope to create a classroom where students feel encouraged to think critically, ask questions, collaborate with others, and become more confident in finding their own solutions,” she said.

Through this professional development program, the CIS teachers gained new perspectives and practical strategies to bring into their classrooms. Their participation reflects CIS Primary Sidoarjo’s commitment to continuous teacher development and meaningful learning, empowering educators to create engaging experiences that support students’ growth and development.
