Students at Chalidana Islamic School in Malang Celebrate Independence Day with a Traditional Costume Show
Preschool students at Chalidana Islamic School (CIS) in Malang celebrated the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day in 2026 with great enthusiasm and joy. Under the theme “Independence Day: Waving Flags, Growing Hearts,” the event featured a variety of exciting activities, such as Competition Week, a Fashion Show, and student performances.
The performance stage, set against a backdrop of a large banner adorned with red-and-white balloons, served as the setting for the students’ charming performances. They confidently took the red carpet wearing a diverse array of traditional Indonesian attire:
- Javanese & Malay Traditional Attire: The children looked elegant and dashing in batik kebayas, beskap jackets complete with blangkon headdresses, and traditional Malay attire complete with head coverings (tanjak).
- Other Traditional Attire from Across the Archipelago: There were also students wearing traditional Papuan attire complete with distinctive face paint and headdresses, as well as other regional outfits featuring vibrant accents.
- Support from Teachers & Chaperones: Teachers and chaperones stood by the stage to guide and encourage the students as they performed.
Through this fashion show and talented performances, the school aims to instill a love for the homeland, the courage to perform in public, and an appreciation for Indonesia’s cultural diversity in students from an early age.
